Leeds at night

October 8th 2018 - January 10th 2019 • Thornton's Arcade

Leeds can be vividly vibrant after dark - both normally and especially during the annual Light Night and Leeds Lights. We invited local photographers to submit images which help sum up the theme and present the results by Alvin Martin, Anthony Hibbert, Chean Yong, Dave Graham, Ian Bale, Lee Hession, Michael Ardron, Nigel Allison, Sarah Rushton, Shire Oak Photography and stAn.

Now we invite you to respond - send us your favourite images of Leeds at night and we'll choose some we like to share on our social media and in the shop.

Email your image - along with the name you want crediting and a description of the image.

Once and now - Morticia

October 1st - November 10th 2018 • Thornton's Arcade

Remnants of the past, and our connections to them, are Morticia’s chief inspiration. She uses a mix of analogue and digital photography to create her mostly monochrome images. For the last five years she’s been exploring the history of St George’s Field (University of Leeds) and these images are the result of her research so far.

Other events:

  • Launch: Thursday 4th October; 5-7pm

  • Artist talk: Friday 19th October; 6-8pm

Console control

Thornton's Arcade

Carlstuf is hardly new to Kapow - his works have been featured in every one of the spaces we've occupied; and you've already seen works by him at Thornton's Arcade.

However when he brought in his console controller artworks we just had to hang them on our walls - a new, simpler style - bit still bringing us gamers some great reminiscences of those controllers we used to hammer away at so much

Dave Pollot

We love Dave's work so much that, after featuring him in the main store area when we first got his prints we've moved them into the stairway gallery at the back of the store.

Simply put - Dave finds thrift art and paints items from popular culture. Come in and see our prints or visit his website.

Kevin Hickson

We love Kevin's paintings which seem somehow to contain microcosms of the most beautiful spaces - from alien environments to seductive landscapes and on to glorious bacteria.

His time at Kapow was way too short; we're hoping we'll get him back soon!

Ross McIntosh

Ross was the first artist to appear at Kapow Coffee as we loved his awesome and incisive cartoons.

Ross' cartoons share his thoughts and observations on life, his younger days and psychological theory. He relishes the way that a message can be shared, and possibly enhanced, through the cartoon format.

John Edwards

Following a long and successful career in architecture John is a full time Yorkshire-based artist, illustrator and plein-air painter. An award-winning artist, he works predominantly in ink and watercolour to capture the Urban and Natural Landscape.
